Abstract
- This research provides the results of large-scale laboratory and industrial tests on silicon electrothermy with silicon carbide and briquettes with quartz sand and petroleum coke added to the charge. It is shown that only replacement of petroleum coke for these ingredients in a standard charge is efficient. Substituting coal for them also deteriorates the process efficiency, which is explained by increased electrical conductivity of the charge. Recommendations to improve the electrothermy technology, including SolG Si preparation are formulated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
