Abstract

This article highlights the emergence of the Arab countries in the community of world powers. The attention given by the U.S. and Western powers to the move of Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia to impose oil embargo on the world market is an indication that Arab countries have joined the community of world powers. The Arab oil embargo is the very manifestation of the power of Arab countries to influence the world community. This event will make U.S. foreign policy toward the Middle East more complex. The U.S. need to balance its commitment to the security of Israel and commitment to Saudi Arabia on removing Soviet Union's influence on the region.
