Abstract

Reports research on homicide and suicide rates from the National Violent Death Reporting System in six states during 2003. Comparison of the NVDRS data with the 1993-2002 data from the National Vital Statistics System; Finding of significant increase in homicide and suicide among males from 2000 to 2003; Suggestion there is evidence for states to implement effective violence-prevention programs; CDC editorial note mentioning three limitations in the study.
