Abstract

This paper undertakes to propose inclusion of the great epics of the world -- Greek and Indian--in the curriculum of Higher Education to highlight the ethical and human values imparted by them and to ingrain and inseminate in today's youth high code of conduct and cross-cultural sensitivity. This is invariably vital for the students of arts, humanities, social sciences and other sciences to understand and come to terms with human predicament and also to unearth the underlying subtexts such as the sacred Bhagavat Gita which directs one to right living and the pejorative ones which reveal denial of poetic justice to the biologically and emotionally vulnerable. This lends space for the students to imbibe the standards of right living and at the same time critically interrogate the inherent autocracy under the pretext of virtue and to evolve not only cultural but a moral sensitivity that strikes a balance between absolutism and relativism.
