Abstract

Reports on a study of encystations and excystation of Acanthamoeba castellani using transmission electron microscopy. Differentiation process induced in asynchronous cultures grown axenically; Observation of cytoplasmic vesicles containing a dense fibrous material very similar in appearance to the cyst wall, in trophozoites induced to encyst; Presence of small structures very similar to electron-dense granules in mature cysts induced to excystation.
