Abstract

In this study we report the effect of polyethylene glycol-3350 (PEG) on the sensitivity of gadolinium ferrite nano-particle based electrochemical sensor. Gadolinium ferrite nano-particles were synthesized by combustion technique using sugar and ethanolamine as fuel. The synthesized nano materials were characterized using advanced analytical techniques like FESEM, and TEM. After confirming the size of synthesized material in nano range the electrochemical sensor was fabricated. Gadolinium ferrite nano-particle based electrochemical sensor (GdFeO<subscript>3</subscript>/GP) has been fabricated for the detection of aspirin. FESEM and TEM results reveal that synthesized nano materials are in nano range having 40 to 45 nm size. Cyclic voltammogram of 1µM ASA indicated a single irreversible oxidation peak at 1.1 V which was 2 fold higher than bare GP electrode. When the polyethylene glycol was mixed in analyte sample, the oxidation peak was nearly 2.6 time higher than bare GP. Maximum current value was obtained with supporting electrolyte at pH-6.0. Hence phosphate buffer solution of pH 6.0 was employed in all experimental work, maintaining scan rate at 100mVs<superscript>−1</superscript>. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
