Abstract

This paper proposes a methodology for calculating hydraulic shock, considering the occurrence of cavitation caverns in the open source OpenFOAM software package, using it cavitatingFoam solver. The proposed calculation method is verified by experimental data for different experimental cases: flow with no cavitation, limited cavitation, moderate cavitation, and severe cavitation. Also received results were compared with simulations in commercial software package FlowMaster, where the proposed method is compared with the existing method of calculation by the method of characteristics. Conducted investigations confirmed the possibility of using developed method to predict the effect of cavitation on network operation in different transition modes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
