Abstract

The investigation of SO<subscript>2</subscript>, NO<subscript>2</subscript>, soot and benzo(a)pyrene (BP) has been performed at the background station on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea since 1980. A significant decreasing trend has been observed for SO<subscript>2</subscript> and NO<subscript>2</subscript>, while soot and BP concentrations were changing insignificantly. The decreasing SO<subscript>2</subscript> and NO<subscript>2</subscript> high concentrations (>10µg·m<superscript>-3</superscript>) have been determined in the air masses coming from the Western and Central Europe to Lithuania since 1900. The concentration of SO<subscript>2</subscript> in a range of 0–5µg·m<superscript>-3</superscript> and the concentration of NO<subscript>2</subscript> in a range of 0–10µg·m<superscript>-3</superscript> are characteric of the background atmospheric air.
