Abstract

The Edwards Personal Preference Schedule was given to 108 Negro female students and 63 males to compare white and Negro group differences in personality. The results obtained indicate significant differences between Negro men and women, Negro males and standardization group males, and Negro females and standardization group females in many personality variables. Implications of these findings are discussed in terms of possible determinants, some comparisons are made with scores of seven West Indian Negroes, the relation of the results to problems of caste and class and pat- terns of need strength in the Negro group are indicated.
