Abstract
- The article focuses on the Council of Europe, an organization founded in 1949 with the aim of achieving greater unity between its members for the purpose of safeguarding and realizing the ideals and principles shared by member states and to facilitate their economic and social progress. Noting that the World Population Plan of Action adopted by the World Population Conference held in Bucharest in August 1974 affirms that all couples and individuals have the right to decide freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children. To make family planning information, advice and means available to all sections of the population as an integral part of health and social services, by means of increasing the range and efficiency of family planning services and ensuring that they are well distributed geographically so as to be within easy reach of the whole population, special attention needs to be paid to rural areas and the socially disadvantaged areas of large cities. It also discusses problems and objectives of family planning and about the relative advantages and disadvantages of the various methods available.
