Abstract
- Internal fertilization and viviparity are characteristic of some species of the genus Sebastes. Some species of this genus were shown to have polyandry. Using five microsatellite markers and three main statistical approaches, the level of polyandry in wild population of white-edged rockfish (Sebastes taczanowskii) was estimated. In some clutches, multiple paternity was detected. This study is the first evidence of multiple paternity in the white-edged rockfish. It seems likely that polyandry is a very common strategy in this species living in the Far Eastern seas, as well as an important factor in the regulation of genetic diversity and productivity.
