Abstract
- Defect reporting is essential software testing activity to communicate issues and errors found in the software product to the developers. To produce high-quality defect reports, apart from technical knowledge and experience, the personality of the tester plays an important role. However, studies on personality in software testing are more focused the influence of personality in testing performance, and studies exploring software defect reporting are very limited. In this research, we surveyed 105 software engineering professionals to understand the relationship between personality and their thoughts on the importance and difficulties of information to be reported in software defect reports. From the survey, we found out that the software testers/ most personality traits were agreeableness and intellect imagination. From their opinions, cause of the problem is important information to be included when describing usability defects, but writing in non-human computer interaction terms is seems difficult to them.
