Abstract
- In both schools, children are socialized into the global I umma i (worldwide Muslim community), including Tanzania's wider Muslim society, yet, Dilger argues, Muslim students are not trained to be "good citizens" as Christian students are. In contrasting Christian and Muslim schools, Dilger places the Tanzanian private educational sector within colonial and postcolonial history, neoliberalism and state policies, power dynamics, and social inequality.
