Digitalisation of micro-enterprises: Data acquisition for sustainability governance.

The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has severely hampered microentrepreneurs' economic activities and pushed them towards poverty and vulnerability. In this situation, digitalising business is considered an effective means to resume business activities and, thus, scale-up micro-business owners' financial status. By relying on the literature review method, this paper offers a conceptual model for micro-business digitalisation focusing on its sustainability governance through data acquisition. Various points such as electronic financial transaction systems (e-wallet), e-marketplace, integrated social networks, crowdfunding sources, and the other stakeholders' involvement have been taken as the potential gateways for data acquisition. This model is deemed a convenient e-platform to the Malaysian underprivileged micro-entrepreneurs while being effectively and sustainably governed by the authority. The outcomes of this paper will help policymakers to create an alternative platform to rescue impoverished micro-business holders. It will further create opportunities for future research.
