Abstract

This paper sets a bibliometric analysis of Greek biotechnology publications in the context of national policy for biotechnology, and the characteristics of the economy so as to identify how far policy intentions are being achieved. Agro-food biotechnology research receives a high proportion of research funds and is relevant to the national economy, but the majority of publications are in the medical area. Policy to stimulate public– private research results in few publications co-authored by Greek firms. Some explanations for the gap between intentions and outcomes are discussed.
