Abstract
- 1. The effects of 2-aminoethylnitrate-ptoluenesulfonate (NLT) and glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) on the arterial blood pressure, coronary blood flow and coronary perfusion pressure were studied in anesthetized dogs. 2. Both compounds produced relatively marked hypotensive effects and coronary vasodilatory effects when administered intravenously to anesthetized dogs; however, whereas the responses produced by GTN were fleeting, the effects of NLT persisted in excess of 20 min. 3. The oral administration of NLT and GTN to unanesthetized dogs demonstrated the oral effectiveness of the two compounds as vasodepressor agents. NLT produced its peak effect in a significantly shorter time than GTN, but both compounds displayed the same duration of action. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
