Abstract
- India presently has the largest population of blind people in the world. Over 15 million individuals in India are blind, making up a quarter of the world's 37 million blind people. Our project will aim to investigate the development of an application and an obstacle sensing device for visually challenged people (blind). The model is built on a microcontroller with synthetic speech output. The device is portable and will provide users with information on urban walking routes to help them make the best decision possible. On the other side, to provide help to the blind person, an obstacle detection system using ultrasound will detect the nearest obstacle via ultra-sonic sensors. To provide more detailed information about the obstacle, we are also implementing Computer Vision to ultimately make the commands more descriptive and accurate. An SOS system will be used that will to provide help to the blind person. The proposed equipment and mobile application would be used to assist blind or partially sighted people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
