Abstract

The high-temperature heat energy generated by rotating gliding arc plasma can provide an exclusive advantage to the chemical conversion process. In this study, two examples of such chemical conversion processes utilized in the industry were investigated. One example is the ignitor and flame stabilizer of a diesel burner, wherein high-temperature heat energy generated by a rotating gliding arc plasma is transferred to diesel fuel droplets through radiative heat transfer. This effectively transferred high-temperature heat energy results in an exceptionally fast ignition process. A comprehensive study on a diesel burner assisted by a rotating gliding arc plasma was conducted, including a fundamental study of ignition, an engine bench test, and an on-road vehicle test. Another example is a plasma treatment process to control global warming gases, such as CF<subscript>4</subscript>, NF<subscript>3</subscript>, N<subscript>2</subscript>O, etc., emitted as a result of semiconductor/display manufacturing process. These chemically inert gases were successfully decomposed in a spacious and high-temperature reaction zone generated by rotating gliding arc plasma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
