Abstract

The paper presents a comparative review of 21st-century organizational communication in Australia/New Zealand and the United States. The parochialism of United States scholarship is perhaps a manifestation of its attempts to consolidate the disciplinary status of organizational communication. The near-obsessive concern about the disciplinary status of the field in the United States academy is reflected in a series of soul-searching, as well as inward-looking, debates. Critical discourse analysis is a particularly popular methodological tool used in Australia. Working in a smaller field has definitely made scholars in Australasia less insular about disciplinary identities.
