Abstract

This, plus increased pressures on the National Health Service (NHS) and overall workforce shortages in the health and social care sector, makes a public health approach more important than ever to ensure we support communities and prevent ill-health. The plan from the 2022 Autumn Statement to address NHS workforce challenges is welcome, but the government must also show commitment to public health and the prevention of ill-health. RSPH understands actions such as targeted financial support could go a long way and is one of many solutions proposed - alongside support for the workforce in our report "Our health: the price we will pay for the cost-of-living crisis".[1] If we continue to ignore the public health crisis, we will continue to see our health suffer and costs to the United Kingdom rise.
