Abstract

Machining is one of the most widely used production technologies nowadays. Since producing large machine parts does not require high precision machining, it is reasonable to use a manipulating industrial robot equipped with milling equipment instead of a traditional numerically controlled machine tool (NC machine) due to the lower cost of the complex. However, if robotic machining is applied, there is a necessity to calibrate the equipment of the industrial robot, which negatively influences the total time of the operating procedure. This paper deals with the development of an automatic tool calibration method for a robotic machining complex, which saves time and reduces labor expenditures of industrial robot tool calibration procedures greatly. The authors of the article carried out the analysis of calibration technologies and their automation choices. They offered a method on how to measure the tool overhang value, developed the functional circuit connection diagram of the equipment as well a computing model of calibration parameter performance.
