Abstract

This research is an advanced study on testing welding results with visual test methods. This study aims to determine the level of independence of student welding results and the cause of the emergence of these indications. This study uses quantitative descriptive research, where the data that appears is then described according to existing facts and then presented using numbers and statistical analysis. The research was implemented at the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education, Yogyakarta State University, with 25 students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education. The research object is a workpiece resulting from 3G position welding conducted by 25 students. The data collected is interpreted using standard procedures from AWS and ASME. The results showed 3G welding of students who passed the Liquid Penetrant Test based on AWS as many as five students, while based on ASME as four students. The indications that most appear in the specimens studied are rounded. Manifestations of welding defects occur because students pay less attention to welding procedures, unstable welding arc positions, and incorrect selection of welding parameters.
