Abstract

Stacey Balkan's I Rogues in the Postcolony: Narrating Extraction and Itinerancy in India i is a valuable study that cuts across fields such as postcolonial studies, South Asian studies, Global South studies, environmental humanities, and disaster studies. In this light, Balkan interprets Ghosh's novels as a rich archive that gives us a palimpsestic account of subaltern agency, suffering, and resistance and serves as a counter to the hegemonic colonial archive. Balkan's interpretation of Animal's roguery offers us new perspectives on postcolonial pessimism and neoliberal dehumanization. [Extracted from the article]
