Abstract

The article informs that longevity of snakes is poorly understood due to limited data on wild populations. Most records of snake longevity come from specimens in captivity, where they often live longer than their wild counterparts due to better living conditions. The oldest reported snake was a 47.5-year-old Python regius housed at the Philadelphia Zoo. This paper presents a new verified longevity record for P. regius and any captive snake.
