Abstract

NIH/Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of ChildHealth and Human Development WHAT: Emergency departments that have the highest levels ofcoordination of health care, personnel, procedures andmedical equipment needed to care for ill and injuredchildren have far higher rates of survival than hospitalswith low readiness, according to a study funded by theNational Institutes of Health. Researchers found thatmore than 1,400 children's deaths may have been preventedif hospital emergency departments had adopted nationalpediatric care readiness standards as laid out by theNational Pediatric Readiness Project.
