Abstract
- The author and editor describe their collaboration in the writing process and use of The Internship, an Engineering Ethics Novel in conjunction with teaching the capstone class in the Engineering Systems Management curriculum at St. Mary's University. The class was taken by 17 students in the spring 2020 semester. The class started in a face-to-face setting, but was switched to the online mode midway through the semester when the university adopted the stay-in-shelter online class delivery system. This paper is broken into several sections. We first offer a statement on why an engineering ethics novel was needed. A description of the writing process, from the perspective of the author of the novel (Moras), is followed by a section written from the perspective of the editor (Alegre). The final section includes comments about the use of the novel in the semester when the pandemic forced the university to migrate all courses to online delivery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
