Abstract

The article highlights that as income differences increase, the gains of success and the costs of failure increase as well the steeper the stairs, the faster one can tumble down. It discusses the average offer across twenty-four countries, including places as different as Papua New Guinea, Kenya, and Spain, was 40 percent; and mentions that reducing inequality at any level of average income ought to lead to a healthier and happier society.
