Abstract

We detected a virus-like sequence in Cynanchum rostellatum leaves showing yellow mottle symptoms, found in Tokyo, Japan. RNA-Seq analysis revealed that the complete nucleotide sequence of the virus genome was 5,878 nucleotides in length and that it contained seven open reading frames (ORFs) specific to members of the genus Polerovirus. Accordingly, phylogenetic analysis revealed that the virus clustered with poleroviruses in the family Solemoviridae. The amino acid sequence identity values obtained by comparison of the deduced proteins of this virus and those of known members of the genus Polerovirus were lower than 90%, which is the species demarcation criterion of the taxon. The results indicate that this virus is a novel member of the genus Polerovirus, for which the name "cynanchum yellow mottle-associated virus" is proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
