Abstract
- First, the writers thank the discussers for their interest in their article and for providing further opportunity to elucidate two fundamental aspects perturbing the contribution of the Froude number (F) in assessing flow resistance in movable-bed rivers. 2 compares calculated HT <math display="inline" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi>f</mi></mrow></math> ht and predicted HT <math display="inline" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi>f</mi></mrow></math> ht . If HT <math display="inline" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi mathvariant="normal">F</mi><mo> </mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></math> ht , the flow is supercritical, and if HT <math display="inline" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi mathvariant="normal">F</mi><mo> </mo><mn>1</mn></mrow></math> ht , the flow is subcritical. As, HT <math display="inline" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi>f</mi></mrow></math> ht does not depend only on HT <math display="inline" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi>R</mi><mo stretchy="false">/</mo><mi>D</mi></mrow></math> ht and HT <math display="inline" overflow="scroll" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mrow><mi>W</mi><mo stretchy="false">/</mo><mi>H</mi></mrow></math> ht , these two input parameters in model development cannot be reliable.
