Abstract

The enlargement in the cost of electrical energy and relevant development in both material technology and operating cost, promoted the designers to improve the performance of the induction motors. In this paper presents the modeling and analysis of a three-phase induction motor with different depth dimensions of the rotor rods using the two-dimensional finite element method. The research deals with the effect of rotor rods depth on motor performances. The prototype contains the basic dimensions of the stator and rotor according to the basic design, as the motor works on a 380-volt source with a frequency of 50 Hz and an effective power of 2200 watts. The rotor rods depth was changed at rates starting from -25% up to +75%, analyzing the motor performance for each change state, and comparing the effect of the rods depth on the motor performance in terms of efficiency, power, power factor, torque, stator current and starting current to get the optimal depth of bars achieves the highest performance. The ability of ANSYS to solve Maxwell's equations was exploited in a comprehensive results analysis. The ability of the ANSYS program to solve Maxwell's equations was exploited in conducting a comprehensive analysis of the results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
