Abstract
- The article discusses research which investigated trends in the use of epidural steroid injections to treat back pain before spine surgery. The study assessed the association of preoperative epidural steroid injections with postoperative chronic opioid in patients who underwent anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) compared to those who underwent microdiscectomy. Mechanisms behind the association of epidural steroid injections with chronic postoperative opioid use are proposed.
