The article focuses on growing number of European television series for children or for children and their parents since the 1950s shows in a nationally differenciated manner. It explains how economical and political interests influenced the production of British, French, Swedish and Spanish series for children and families. It also mentions agricultural changes, the rural exodus, suburbanisation, the industrialisation of the countryside, the increase of mobility, of further education.
