Abstract

Detergents (surface active agents) are chemical compounds, which are largely used for washing purpose. The use of detergent has expanded in recent years in both households and industries, causing several problems in sewage treatment facilities as well as hazardous effects on organisms and the environment. Test was conducted to determine some physicochemical parameters from samples of wastewater collected from Soap and Detergent (Al-Amin) industry at the discharge point to the recipient environment. Among the parameters determined included: temperature, pH, Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Biological Oxygen demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total hardness, Turbidity and Oil and Grease. Test results indicated that the Temperature had values which ranged from (25-44)0C for the Waste water, the pH values ranged from (8.83-10.62). The TDS values ranged from (3285.50-5320.92) mg/l. The TSS values ranged from (173.72-210.48mg/l). The BOD value ranged from (181.84-638.92) mg/l, The COD value ranged from (379.38-1470.33) mg/l. The result of the Total hardness values ranged from (154.98-232.34) mg/l, the Turbidity values ranged from (275.04-320.58) mg/l. The Oil and Grease value range from (6.22-71.22 mg/l).
