Abstract

I read an article last week about Einstein's first wife, Mileva Mari'c, writing his early publications and doing his calculations for him - apparently, he was actually kind of a weak student in Physics, and almost didn't pass his program. He and Mileva were working on their thesis together - despite the fact that the institution hadn't awarded her a degree, she persisted in the field, and Einstein was determined to finish so he could find work to marry her. Einstein needed to find work before he could marry her, so as the story gleaned from their preserved letters goes, Mileva continued to write articles and allow him to publish them under his name.
