Abstract

Improving the environmental safety of road transport, providing for the minimization of its negative impact on the environment, includes a decrease in the toxicity of exhaust gases from cars, which is ensured, along with other factors, by the use of fuels containing oxygenate additives. In this paper, the preparation of fuel compositions containing ethanol as an oxygenate additive in a concentration of up to 10% is considered. Fuel-ethanol mixtures were prepared on the basis of commercial diesel fuel with a limiting filterability temperature of minus 20 °C. The effect of ethanol additives on the stability and physicochemical properties of fuel-ethanol emulsions has been studied. Due to the low stability of the resulting mixtures and their tendency to aggregation and coalescence under the experimental conditions, n-propanol additives were used at a concentration of 1%, which contributed to an increase in aggregate stability and an increase in the emulsion separation time.
