Abstract

This paper presents the review study on protecting power factor correction (PFC) capacitors bank from overvoltage generated by odd harmonics and system resonance. A capacitors bank is used in industrial sectors to improve power factor (PF). These capacitors gets overvoltage across them as variable frequency drive (VFD) used. These VFD drives generates different harmonics and system resonance which leads to exceeding overvoltage across capacitors used in capacitors bank. It lead to breakage/spoil of capacitors bank. This nonlinear load also increases disturbances to fundamental component of power supply. If total harmonic distortion (THD) crosses 15% can leads to unstable power on distribution network. A different researcher uses different methods to avoid this problem. We are going to compare some best methods of eliminating this problem. Identified gap in some methods and will research/work further in this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
