Abstract
- The article focuses on metaphors and pretensions of philosophy. The relations between contemporary literary theory and philosophy are complex. Philosophers have inspired much of the reassessment of the relations between literature and philosophy currently occurring in literary theory. In comparison with literary critics, philosophers can seem to have an enviable relationship with their texts. When they engage with the works of past philosophers they do not do so as mere "critics" or "commentators."
