Abstract

Plants have the particularity of fixing carbon and energy, which they store and transport in the form of carbohydrates. Sugar metabolism therefore plays a central role in the development and reproduction of plants, as also evidenced by the fact that the expression of a very large number of genes is influenced by sugars (e.g., Bläsing et al., 2005; Price et al., 2004; Solfanelli et al., 2006).
