Abstract

This paper analyzes whether technology is a channel for resource curse reversal in resource-rich African economies between 1985 and 2019, employing Pool Mean Group (PMG) framework. Firstly, the study finds that natural resources positively and significantly affect growth in the short run, while in the long run, they exhibit a negative relationship with growth establishing the resource curse hypothesis. Secondly, it reveals that technology affects economic growth positively in both the short and long run. While it is not statistically significant in the short run, it is significant in the long run. Lastly, the interactive effect of natural resources and technology reveals a positive and significant nexus with economic growth in resourcerich African countries. Showing that technology plays a potent role in resource curse reversal in resource-rich African countries, the study recommends that these nations should embrace technology fully to reap the benefits thereof.
