Abstract
- Oncological pathologies take a toll on millions of lives throughout the world, with a burden set to spiral in the future. The humanity’s increasing lifespan has pushed physicists to come up with specific and improved methods of treatment, and even more so, aggressive, in order to fight back these cell degenerations. Chemotherapy remains still one of the most effective ways to treat cancer, but the price for health might be even higher than expected. The cognitive repercussions of cancer and its treatment have been under the spotlight for the past 20 years, where scientists focused on getting a deeper understanding of post-chemotherapy effects on the human brain. In this paper we dive into the psychological and psychiatric pathology linked to this treatment method, by examining a clinical case that envisions a resilient woman who overcame cancer, but still encountered some setbacks.
