The article analyzes the performance of hypersexuality in Bollywood item songs. Topics covered include an assessment of the extent to which these songs represent empowerment for Indian women, the representational politics of the women who play item girls in Bollywood, and how the item song has been understood within contemporary culture since it can be understood as representative of the sexual and gender politics of Indian society.
