Abstract
- Lantern logo shaped novel design of monopole antennas for ultra – wideband applications have been presented in this manuscript. Initially, the lantern shaped radiating patch with L-shaped stubs and fractional ground plane is designed, which exhibits the maximum impedance bandwidth of 8.09 GHz in the frequency range from 2.51 to 10.60 GHz. Further, by employing the semi – circular notch in the ground plane and antenna reveals improved bandwidth of 8.11 and 5.76 GHz in dual frequency ranges 2.65–10.76 GHz and 11.24–17.00 GHz. The overall dimension of proposed antenna is 30 × 30 × 1.6 mm<superscript>3</superscript> and is designed on low cost FR4 glass epoxy substrate with 1.6 mm thickness and 4.4 dielectric constant. Finally, to increase the impedance bandwidth in the entire frequency range from 1 to 17 GHz, a circular and rectangular – shaped stub is introduced in the radiating patch of final geometry of antenna and designated as proposed antenna – I and II. Impedance bandwidth (S<subscript>11</subscript> < − 10 dB) attained for proposed final antenna – I is 143.93% ranging (2.74–16.81 GHz) and proposed final antenna – II is 143.08% ranging (2.82–17.00 GHz). Numerous performance parameters of both the proposed antennas are investigated, such as, peak realized gain, radiation patterns, radiation efficiency and group delay, which are all in acceptable range for distinct wireless and UWB applications. The designed antennas are fabricated and tested for the authentication of results and juxtaposition of experimental and simulated results of antennas have been made and found in good agreement with each other.
