This article presents information regarding the project of Kostow Greenwood Architects (KGA) during the build-out of a Manhattan loft space for Smart Design. Since Davin Stowell, CEO of Smart Design is in the design business he has been one of Kostow Greenwood Architects' most involved clients since KGA was hired for the build-out of Smart's new 40,000-sq.-ft. According to Stowell, the overall concept is to repurpose common or industrial materials that have an interesting quality, and to use them in an elegant but honest way that demonstrates their richness and complexity. The budget friendly materials palette will also yield floating ceilings made of Tectum, a material resembling shredded wheat, that will assist acoustics in the conference rooms.
