Abstract

Basic magnesium sulfate cement (BMS) is a new kind of cement, which has many advantages. In order to study the corrosion of steel in basic magnesium sulfate cement concrete (BMSC), nine steel bars were tested by dry and wet cycling. The simulated solution of BMS was used in this test. In addition, 24 corroded steel bars in BMSC beams and columns that exposed for two years in the natural environment were intercepted for the tensile test. It can be found that the maximum section loss rate, the yield strength, the ultimate strength, the modulus of elasticity and the elongation at break of the corroded steel bars are linearly related to the corrosion rate. Through the research, the calculation formula of the relationship between the yield strength, ultimate strength, elongation at break and elastic modulus of the steel bar and the maximum corrosion rate of section of the steel bar were established. It provides a reference and basis for the durability study of BMSC beams and columns in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
