Why you should read this article: • To understand the discrimination experienced by people with a learning disability who cross-dress • To learn techniques to support people with learning disabilities who want to cross-dress • To familiarise yourself with gender issues in the context of people with learning disabilities People with a learning disability who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or as a cross-dresser can experience multiple layers of discrimination and experience numerous challenges in having their needs met. This article describes a group that was set up to support five men with learning disabilities who wanted to cross-dress. The aim of the group – called Being Me – was to offer the men support, education and empowerment.
