Abstract
- Ozone has been used over the years in medicine, but it is pretty new to be used in dentistry. It has been used for over a century as a disinfectant to purify the blood, and during World War I, used to treat gangrene, burn wounds, osteomyelitis, fistulas, and many other infections. The principal action of Ozone is its antimicrobial effect on bacteria, viruses, and fungi, besides its immunomodulatory, anti-hypoxic, biosynthetic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used in various fields of dentistry, including caries and restorative, endodontic management of tooth, adjunct to dental surgery and wound healing. The benefits of Ozone in dentistry are relatively untouched in literature. So, the present article will update the recent clinical oral applications and summarize the various research findings regarding the use of Ozone in dentistry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
