Abstract
- The article presents a discussion on a skin calcifying system. Histological changes and the accretion of calcium and phosphorus in an experimentally induced calcification of rat skin (topical calciphylaxis) have been described. The appearance of mineral deposits was rapid, and mild injury (epilation or light squeezing) was sufficient stimulus to cause a sparse, restricted mineralisation which, with prior treatment of the animal with an hypercalcaemic agent, progressed to give a grossly mineralised skin area.
