Abstract
- This article focuses on a study which was undertaken to determine whether normal females did share aspects of a pathological background with clinical patients and what factors in backgrounds of normal subjects may have reduced the significance of the pathological factors in their histories. Autobiographies obtained from 100 normally functioning female undergraduates revealed significant evidence of background pathology as well as evidence suggestive of ameliorative background factors which may have enabled the participants to cope adequately with their background pathology. Findings suggest fruitful directions for further research into background factors for adequate coping behavior in normal populations.
