Teaching a Large Course On Contemporary Fiction.

In this article, the author discusses the need of teaching a large course on contemporary fiction. Topics discussed include internal political reasons, many departments want to have some courses with big enrollments; American bourgeois culture, and to help students understand that culture through their reading of the novels and questions, in a literature course, must be through the novels themselves.
