Abstract

The article reports that one of the most serious limitations to the study of naturally occurring auxins bas been the lack of any sensitive methods for their separation and chemical identification. Similar difficulties are met when dealing with the synthetic auxins, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acids where the only sensitive chemical test is completely non-specific, being given by a whole range of homologues. In the last few years, however, rapid improvements in the methods of chromatography have enabled plant physiologists to adapt this technique to the study of auxins.
